HELLO!
Welcome to my site! This is my story of how I went from expert couch potato, weighing in at 237 pounds, to a 167 pound, lean, mean triathlete machine. Like you, I am just another fitness/triathlete enthusiast who just happens to blog about my experiences. I was born in the State of Washington and moved around the country with my family until we ended up in Las Vegas Nevada (Henderson actually but nobody usually knows where that is so for to make it easier I say Las Vegas, I do, however, work in downtown Las Vegas) I was never a High School jock and actually studied music at the Las Vegas Academy where we didn’t have sports except for an annual flag football game against a school called Vo Tech. So basically it was the band geeks against the computer nerds, I played on the team my senior year and lasted about five minutes before I was quickly knocked out (true story). Needless to say I was not really into fitness or anything athletic during my high school years.
DECIDING TO GET FIT
After living two years in the country of Uruguay, (si, yo hablo espanol muy bien gracias) I came home a very skinny man. Still didn’t do much fitness wise but I would jog some from time to time. As I got older I noticed that I could not eat and sit around like I used to and still fit into my pants. I compensated for this by buying new pants for a while and went from a size 32 pant to 48. It wasn’t till I started seeing myself in pictures that I realized how fat I had become. I started running regularly and even entered a few 5ks, 10ks, and 1/2 marathons to combat the weight gain. Which more or less worked in starting the weight loss, if anything I started feeling better about myself as I was working towards something.
ENTER BABY #1
In February 2011 we had our first child, fortunately I had earned enough time off to stay home for 6 weeks with our new baby girl for 6 weeks. Unfortunately this involved a lot of sitting around since I couldn’t take the new one running with me, which really at the time was the only thing I knew how to do. So I gained almost everything I had lost back, and probably a few lbs more. As the baby grew I had the opportunity to be begin running again, but I admit not as much as I would have like before. I entered into half marathons again so that I could have something to work for everyday. In March of 2012 I decided to enter the Moab Half Marathon with two other friends and my younger brother. It was basically the worst race of my life. I came in last of all my friends after my legs locked up in mile 11 and I pretty much hobbled the last couple miles to the finish line. That night while everyone was celebrating I felt pretty depressed as I had felt I had worked very hard for this moment and had little to show for it. There had to be something I could do for my overall fitness that would work better than what I was getting with all this running with little to no results.
P90 X TRANSFORMATION
That night, while wallowing in self pity, I saw an infomercial on TV for P90X. The results that they showed these people get in 90 days was amazing! Having never lifted weights or done much besides running I knew I needed direction so I got my hands on a copy of P90X as soon as we got home from Utah. I could go on for literally 5 full pages, if not more, detailing what happened with my P90X transformation but basically it was one of the best things that happened in my entire life. I learned how to tie in nutrition to my fitness and how to improve not only my running but my overall fitness. I felt stronger, skinnier and MUCH MUCH FASTER. Rather than explain the entire transformation for the next 5 years or your life, here is a video that does a good job providing a visual of the transformation I had in less than 5 minutes.
TRIATHLON
As you can see, at some point during my P90X journey I decided to give triathlons a try. In all honesty I hated almost every moment of my first triathlon which was the Pumpkinman Triathlon here in Las Vegas. After finishing an Olympic distance triathlon in more than four hours I vowed I would never try to torture myself to that degree again, however I had spent several hundred dollars on a bike (It was $800, I know all of you experienced triathletes are rolling on the floor laughing right now) so I signed up for a shorter distance sprint at the Lake Mead Triathlon. I can’t really put a finger on what happened during that race, but after that race I had made up my mind, I was a triathlete and fitness was now apart of my life.
BEACHBODY COACH
I decided to become a Team Beachbody Coach after my first person round of P90X. I love sharing my story with others and helping people achieve similar transformations in their lives. While I love triathlons I have yet to find any program that has prepared me better than Beachbody programs. I have done P90X (3 times), P90X 2, Insanity, Insanity the Asylum, T25, and yes even some TurboFire. After becoming a Beachbody coach I have been extremely blessed to see others succeed in their transformations too, most notably, my own mother who was able to overcome her arthritis pain and do P90X. Through online challenge groups I have been able to witness several other incredible transformation that I am humbled to have have shared with me.
I’M NOT ALONE
Along the way my wife, Heidi, decided to join me on the journey to be fit. Expect to see some posts from time to time that include her and the Munchkin from time to time. I will also comment on products that I use and my training in hopes that it may inspire you to change or help you on your journey as well. Welcome to your Fit Habitat, let the fitness evolution begin! I am always looking for people to join my team – I’d love to hear from you if you think you might be interested in joining my team!
